AdjudicatorsWe are pleased to announce that the adjudicators for the 2012 Festival are as follows:
NADIA LASSERSON, BMus, ARAM, GRSM, ARCM - Piano (Saturday 31st March) Nadia Lasserson studied at the Royal Academy of Music and while there, was appointed a Sub-Professor and awarded the Manns Memorial Prize. She studied piano with Robin Wood and Max Pirani, clarinet with Alan Hacker, harpsichord with Geraint Jones and prepared for the B.Mus degree with Dr. Eric Thiman. Nadia has a wide experience of piano teaching and believes it is important that all her pupils are exposed to ensemble playing from the very early stages. As well as running a private teaching practice in South London, she is currently on the teaching staff of Trinity College of Music and Royal College of Music Junior Departments; she was Head of Keyboard and Chamber Music at James Allens Girls’School, Dulwich for 15 years and still teaches there. She is a Festival Adjudicator and examined for the ABRSM for over 20 years. DENNIS LEE, MMusRCM - Piano (Friday 30th March) Dennis Lee was born in Malaysia. On an Associated Board scholarship he studied piano (with Angus Morrison) and violin at the Royal College of Music in London. There he gained Honours diplomas in both instruments, the Tagore Gold Medal for the most outstanding student of the year, the BMus degree with First Class Honours from London University and the MMusRCM. An Austrian Government scholarship took him to the Akademie in Vienna where he won the Stepanow Prize. Subequently he studied in Milan, Italy and has performed with most of the BBC orchestras, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the Halle and appeared at the Royal Festival Hall, Barbican and in festivals like Brighton and Cheltenham. Overseas concerts have included recitals at the Kennedy Center (Washington DC) and Merkin Hall (New York). Dennis Lee is a Steinway artist. SUZANNE HIGGINS, MA (Music), BA Cert.Ed. - Voice Suzanne studied with Betty Middleton in Yorkshire, continuing her studies whilst a chorister in the Opera Royale de Wallonie, Liège, and Cologne Opera. In England she freelanced with the BBC Singers, London Voices, the Britten Singers and the London Sinfonietta, and toured with the Arena Carmen for Classical Productions. She has taken operatic roles for London City Opera and London Opera Players. Suzanne sings in the Quartet of St. Giles Cripplegate, is a Freeman of the City of London and a member of the Musicians Company. Suzanne taught singing for Hertfordshire Music Services, Morley College and Bromley College of Adult Education, also conducting choirs for the last two. Her outreach work has involved performing for Music in Hospitals. Suzanne teaches singing in Oxford, and maintains a private teaching practice. JERRY HARRISON, LLCM (TD) - Guitar Jerry Harrison studied at the London College of Music for four years with Douglas Rogers and Carlos Bonell, and ran the Junior Guitar Department there for five years after his completion. He has taken master courses with such notables as David Russell and Vladimir Mikulka and was first-prize winner in the 1990 International Sanchis Guitar Competition. He made a London debut at the Queen Elizabeth Hall with the Omega Players, and now has an active teaching practice and performing schedule. BRIAN HAWKINS, FRCM - Strings Brian Hawkins studied the viola at the Royal College of Music with Cecil Aronowitz. After a period with the Edinburgh String Quartet, he joined the London Oboe Quartet with the renowned oboist Janet Craxton, and the Vesuvius Ensemble, the London Virtuosi and the Nash Ensemble. His experience in Chamber and Chamber Orchestral music was extended by membership of the London Sinfonietta as Principal viola, the English Chamber Orchestra and The Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields. He was appointed Professor of Viola and Chamber Music at the Royal College of Music in 1967, becoming Faculty Advisor in 1989, and Head of Strings in 1992 until retirement in 2002. He was awarded the Fellowship of the RCM in 1991. He has been External Examiner at the Royal Academy of Music, the Guildhall School of Music, Trinity-Laban, The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and Birmingham Conservatoire. PAUL HARRIS, FRAM, ARAM, GRSM, LRAM, ARCM, MTC, HonTCL - Woodwind, Recorder & Brass Paul Harris is one of the UK’s most influential and experienced music educationalists. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music, where he won the August Manns Prize for outstanding performance in clarinet playing. In great demand as a teacher, composer, and writer, his inspirational masterclasses and workshops continue to influence thousands of young musicians and teachers all over the world in both the principles and practice of musical performance and education. |
